The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, it feels like summer – but it’s February – and this Saturday is Valentine’s Day! There are so many things you can do with your significant other – but what about with your kids?! Valentine’s Day is more than flowers, chocolate and date night when you have a family. When you’re raising school-aged kids, Valentine’s Day is more like shopping for those little cardboard boxes of paper Valentines and treats for your little ones to hand out at school, and transforming shoe-boxes into little Valentine “mail box” masterpieces. But, other than shoe boxes, paper valentines, treats and school parties, there’s a lot more you can do to accentuate Valentine’s Day with your kids – Here are our ideas for adorably fun things to do with your Kids for Valentine’s Day, in Phoenix!
STUFFING THEIR OWN VALENTINE!
I’ve been to “create your own stuffed animal” stores, and they are a lot of fun, but a little pricy once your child starts adding on all the accessories to complete the perfect stuffed bear. That’s why I save trips to Build-A-Bear and The Stuffington Bear Co. for special occasions, and Valentine’s Day is a perfect occasion! It’s a nice way for the kids to put their thought and heart into a personalized gift for Mom, Dad, brother or sister, and feel proud of the work they did – plus, it’s a stuffed toy worth keeping!!
TEA PARTY FOR YOUR LITTLE LADY AT PEEK KIDS
This Thursday, February 12, 2015, Peek Kids is hosting a mini tea party! The tea party is “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” themed in celebration of the launch of their newest collection inspired by the classic story, and to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the 1865 novel “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” written by Lewis Carroll. The party will include tea and crumpets, and story time. The parents are welcome to sit in, or roam and check out the new line and the rest of the store. Visit any Peek Kids stores this Thursday to take part in this exquisite event! Peek Kids has two Arizona locations: Kierland Commons, and Scottsdale Fashion Square.
VALENTINE’S DAY DANCE!!
What other great way to evoke the Valentine’s Day spirit, than to take your kids to a dance?! Kids ages 4 – 12 and parents are welcomed this Friday February 13, 2015 to dress up and go dancing with their Mommy, Daddy, or guardian, for The Valentine’s Day Love Bug Dance in Queen Creek. The event is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Library Recreation Annex, 21802 S. Ellsworth Road. Pre-registration is required and admission is $20 for one adult and one child, $10 per additional adult and $5 per additional child. Admission includes a light dinner, along with lighting, music and dancing. And the memory for both you and your kids will last forever. Space is limited so pre-register your tickets online here or at the Library Recreation Annex.
This next one is after Valentine’s Day – but worth knowing about ahead of time, because all little girls should be taken to a real play, at least once (I still remember my first play)!
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST JUNIOR – LIVE!!!
February 20 through March 29, 2015 – Desert Stages Theater will be showcasing the beloved fairy tale, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast – Jr. edition. Showtimes are every Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 1 and 3 p.m. Tickets are only $15! What a great first play for your youngsters to get them acclimated to theater.
